Enabled Tracking to track over 300 hikers during the Sierra Club One Day Hike

For the second year in a row Enabled Tracking will provide GPS tracking services for the Sierra Club Potomac Region Outings’ (SCPRO’s) One Day Hike (ODH) scheduled for April 22, 2023.

The hike comprises two concurrent, non-competitive hikes of 100 and 50 kilometers that follow the C&O Canal towpath. The 100-km event starts at 3 AM from the Thompson Boat Center parking lot in Georgetown, DC; the 50-km event starts at 10 AM from Whites Ferry, MD. Both hikes proceed along the towpath, crossing the footbridge into Harpers Ferry after mile marker 60 and ending in Bolivar, WV. The ODH has been held since 1974.

“Our GPS tracking solution is a perfect way to keep track of the hundreds of hikers who attend this event,” said Mark Harris of Enabled Tracking. “There is a broad range of fitness and skill levels of the hikers and they can become spread out along the route. With the tracking service, the event organizers are quickly able to determine where everyone is on the course to aid with both safety and logistics during the event.”

Hikers must arrive at support stations by cut-off times or they are required to drop out, and all must finish by midnight. GPS tracking helps determine who will (or will not) make these cutoffs.

More information about the event and links to registration can be found on the event website at www.onedayhike.org. Any questions regarding the event tracking can be sent to info@adventureenablers.com.
