GARMIN SHARE STRING

How to locate and activate your Garmin ShareString

If have your own Garmin GPS device, we can add it to our tracking software with your ShareString. Here’s how to find your ShareString and properly set up your Garmin for 48 hours of tracking.

The Garmin GPS device cannot be a watch — it must be a Garmin GPS device, like a Messenger, Mini, Mini 2, or InReach Explorer.

1: Visit Garmin’s explorer web site and login. If you’ve already activated your Garmin, you should have an account.

2: Go to the ‘social’ page.

3: Turn ‘MapShare’ to on

4: Confirm ‘visibility’ is set to ‘public’

5: Copy your ShareString. In the above screenshot, the share string is share.garmin.com/KY76C. Let the Race Director or Enabled Tracking know your ShareString.

6: Confirm your sharing password is off. Depending on the age of your Garmin GPS device, the sharing capability could be password-protected by default. Please confirm your password is turned off.

7: Set your tracking ‘send interval’ to 10 or 20 minutes. Within your device’s settings, set the tracking ‘send interval’ to 10 or 20 minutes.

8: Turn extended tracking on. Also within your device’s settings, set ‘extended tracking’ to on. This setting makes your device sleep in between tracking pings. Your device will look like it’s off, but it’s just asleep. This can effect the ability of your device to receive messages so please check your particular devices instructions if you need to send and receive messages.
